Our stall at the Nayland with Wissington Christmas Fayre yesterday raised £265.61! Many thanks for all the fabulous prizes and for everyone who supported us on the day.

HIBERNATION FLAPJACKS!

We have already been inundated with requests for the recipe for the delicious Hibernation Flapjacks that the Playgroup children have been baking this morning!

Ingredients:
225g  butter/margarine - melted
225g  demerera sugar
2 tablespoons golden syrup
350g rolled oats
50g dried mixed fruit
50g dried apricots

Bake at 180 degrees centigrade for 25 minutes.

Ladies' Shopping Evening

Christmas came a little bit early to Nayland as we got the chance to start our shopping in style with a fantastic variety of stalls at our Ladies Shopping Evening.

Thank you to all the stallholders who brought wonderful and unique goods and to everybody who came along and made the evening such a lovely, sociable and festive evening.

 We raised valuable funds for Woodland Corner in the process so everybody’s contribution was much appreciated.

Playgroup Out and About!

Fire Station Visit 

Children at Playgroup recently enjoyed a visit to Nayland Fire Station. They learnt about keeping safe on Firework night and about the about the equipment the firemen use. They were all very excited when they were allowed to sit in the fire engine. Thank you to all at the fire station who helped with our visit.

Barnardos Toddle Waddle

Well done to all the children, parents, carers and staff who took part in our sponsored Toddle Waddle in aid of Barnardos. We sang nursery rhymes as we walked around the school grounds and then returned to Woodland Corner for a story. Children received a sticker and fridge magnet. Barnardos is the UK's leading children's charity helping the UK's most vulnerable and disadvantaged children. Please return sponsor forms and money to Woodland Corner as soon as possible after half term.

Ladies' Shopping Evening

Fundraising Cake Sale

Woodland Corner is holding another of our ever popular fundraising Cake Sales. Details are on the poster below, please come along and support us on the day! We would also be extremely grateful for any donations of cakes to sell which would need to either be brought to Woodland Corner on Friday 4th October or along to Kerridge's first thing Saturday.

Autumn Term

OUR AUTUMN TERM STARTS ON WEDNESDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER AND
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU, AND ALL OUR NEW CHILDREN, THEN.

Picnic in the Park Sunday afternoon, 25 August

Nayland's Picnic in the Park (the field next to the Village Hall) is on 

Sunday afternoon, 25 August, 1pm till 5pm. 

Preceded by the Famous Duck Race in Fen Street, this family event is a chance to picnic with your friends and neighbours. Just bring your food and drink, picnic rug/chairs for a lazy Sunday afternoon together. Pimms and BBQ food will be on sale.

Please let Mandy Cook know if you'd like to step up to the Open Mic and sing/recite something. Local band Electra are providing the PA and performing so the sound quality will be great. Along with some much younger stars,  Sam Pentney and Ash Brandon are singing and playing guitar too. It would be great to hear you if you'd like to join in! It'll all be happening in the Village Hall should it be raining. 

Enjoy a last 'Hurrah!' before the end of the Summer Hols and Picnic in the Park!!

Wild Encounters at Woodland Corner!

Today at Playgroup we had some very exciting visitors. Marc Woolnough from Wild Encounters came to show us some very special creatures, including a Blue Tongued skink, two Giant African Millipedes, two snakes and a huge stick insect. Some of the children were very brave and stroked or held them. The stick insect didn't have a name so the children named him Sid, after one of the children at playgroup.

There are some photographs in the gallery but we took too many photographs to put on our blog so we will have them printed and they will be available to buy at the end of next week.

Monday 3rd June - Non Pupil Day

Don't forget that Monday is a Non pupil day so Woodland Corner re opens on Tuesday with our Playgroup trip to Hollow Trees farm on Wednesday.

Summer Holiday Funshine Club!

Despite the appalling weather Summer is really just around the corner! Woodland Corner is again hosting the popular Funshine Holiday Club and details can be downloaded here.

Once you have decided which days you would like to book your child/children in for please complete the Booking Form as soon as possible as spaces are limited.

Funshine Holiday CLub Easter 2013

Woodland Corner has held a very successful Funshine Holiday Club this Easter. As well as being mesmerised by magician Peter Reilly and put through their paces by dance teacher Marie Bligh, they also enjoyed crafts, den building, pond dipping, silly science, cooking and much more.

Fundraising Cake Sale this Saturday!

This Saturday, 9th March we are holding one of our popular fund raising Cake Stalls outside Kerridge’s Butchers in Nayland and we are asking all of our Woodland Corner parents if they are able to help, either by making something delicious for us to sell or helping on the day – or both! Helping on the day is a lot of fun and an ideal way for new parents to meet other parents and members of our Committee. We will have a rota on the door in the lobby for volunteers to put their name on so you would not need to commit yourself for more than an hour.

Cakes can be dropped off at Woodland Corner on Friday 8th March or brought along to the stall early on the morning (by 9am please). Could we ask that all produce is labelled with exactly what it is and that tins and trays are also labelled clearly so that they can be returned to you afterwards.


Experience has taught us that cakes with heavily iced toppings melt very quickly in the glaring Nayland sun (yes, really!) so it might be better avoid those kind of creations.

Woodland Corner are collecting Sainsbury's "Active" vouchers. Please consider helping us if you shop at Sainsbury's!

Fun in the Snow!

Today playgroup children had great fun helping to build a snowman who they named Barney.

They took turns on the sledge and brought some snow indoors to play with polar bears, penguins and eskimos.

Bad Weather

IF NAYLAND SCHOOL IS CLOSED BECAUSE OF EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS THEN WOODLAND CORNER WILL CLOSE AS WELL. 

IF THE DECISION IS MADE TO CLOSE THEN A MESSAGE WILL BE LEFT ON OUR ANSWER MACHINE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ON THAT DAY AND UPDATED DAILY THEREAFTER.
